What’s Included in a Plumbing Maintenance Check

You can request a one-time “plumbing tune-up” or schedule us for routine maintenance (e.g. annually or bi-annually). During a typical maintenance service, our friendly plumber will:

Inspect Taps and Faucets

We check every tap for drips and proper function. Minor leaks from worn washers or cartridges are fixed on the spot, saving water and preventing further wear. We’ll also ensure mixing taps are operating smoothly.

Check Toilets

Each toilet is examined for internal leaks (drop of food colouring in the cistern to see if it seeps into the bowl), flush mechanism operation, and seal integrity at the base. We adjust fill valves and replace any suspect washers or seals. A well-maintained toilet prevents ghost flushes and constant running.

Hot Water System Service

For storage tanks, we test the temperature & pressure relief valve (important for safety) and inspect for any signs of rust or leaks. We can replace the sacrificial anode if it’s due (usually every few years) to extend your tank’s life. Instantaneous units are checked for safe burner ignition and adequate output. Regular servicing ensures you’re never left in the cold unexpectedly.

Drainage and Gutters

We do a quick check of visible drains and gutters for any blockages or debris. If your property has easy-access roof gutters, we can clear leaves to prevent overflow. Indoor sink and basin traps are cleared if slow. We’ll also advise if any drains seem partially blocked and might need a preventive clean.

Appliance Connections

Water supply lines to washing machines, dishwashers, and fridges (ice-maker lines) are inspected for kinks or leaks. Flexible hoses (known as flexi-hoses) under sinks – a common point of burst failures – are checked carefully; if they’re old or showing signs of wear, we recommend replacing them before they can burst and flood your kitchen or bathroom.

Gas Safety Check (Optional)

If requested, our licensed gasfitter will conduct a safety check of gas appliances and connections. We test for gas leaks on your supply lines and make sure appliances like heaters or stoves have no obvious faults. This is particularly useful before winter or if you’ve moved into a new home.

General Plumbing Audit

We take a look at the overall plumbing system – water pressure test, condition of exposed pipework, and even your roof flashing and seals if accessible (to pre-empt roof leaks). Any findings are reported to you with recommendations.

During maintenance, many minor fixes can be done on the spot and often at no extra charge beyond maybe a part or two. Tightening a loose tap, re-seating a toilet, caulking around fixtures, or insulating an outdoor pipe – these little things can improve efficiency and prevent malfunctions. We’ll also inform you of any bigger issues looming on the horizon (e.g. an aging hot water unit or an old section of galvanized pipe) so you can plan and budget for a replacement proactively, rather than facing an emergency later.
